Located on a peninsula beneath the famous Table Mountain, Cape Town to me is a complete opposite vibe of Johannesburg. It seems to be a much friendlier and welcoming of the two (and my favorite). Our swanky airbnb apartment was located in the heart of the city so we knew we were going to be in for a treat. Hiking was first on our agenda. We climbed Lion’s head. Our airbnb host convinced us that it was one of the easiest hikes in Cape Town so of course we jumped right on it. It was everything but easy. The first hour was a breeze, it got very real to me when we started climbing on all fours up the cliffs and any single wrong move would have ended our lives. The view of the city from up there was worth it though. It actually took us forever to get all the way up because we kept stopping to take pictures. Usually with hikes, coming down is the easiest, this was not the case with this. It was just as treacherous, cold and dark. Nevertheless, we managed to make it up and down with no single injury except for some muscle aches of course. We later found out that people die on that hike daily. I am glad we found out afterwards. It was by far the most difficult hike I have done in my entire life. We couldn't move for the remainder of the night. lol
We hit up Bokaap the next day. Bokaap is a Muslim community known for its very colorful homes and cobble stone streets. It is so famous that is one of the tourist attractions in Cape Town. While checking out the place, we interrupted Dej Loaf's photo shoot. Well, not quite. lol It is actually a funny story. So upon arrival on the main strip of Bokaap, we saw a group of people with some photo shoot props walking towards one of the colorful buildings. They didn't look like they were ready so I politely asked if I could take a picture with the backdrop before they start their shoot. I basically asked them to move out of the way. The "star", gave me a little shoulder shrug with a smirk on her face like, "Bitch, do you know who I am?". Um no!! I had no clue who she was and I didn't really care. I just wanted a photo. After the photo, we walked away to check out other parts of Bokaap. Upon our return, the photo/video shoot was in full effect with drones and everything. At this point, Chloe was convinced the "star" looked familiar. We walked towards them to be nosy of course but our excuse was to "take more pictures". One of the crew members with one of those bazooka looking cameras approached us and asked to take pictures of me for their video and without any thought I agreed. Afterall, I was in a foreign country and what is the worse that could happen. Chloe engaged him in a conversation during this time and that is when we found out it was Dej Loaf. Wow, I felt dumb and ashamed that I didn't know what she looked like because hubby loves her. Hubby disturbs me with her music all the time, I should know her! The truth is, I still wouldn't recognize her if I saw her today. lol
We took a road trip to the most south-western point of the African continent, Cape Point via Uber of course. The trip took about 2 hours one way you so can only imagine our uber bill. It was worth it though. I would suggest booking a tour if you would rather spend less money on transportation. We stopped to see the penguins at boulders beach on our way back. Such cute little creatures.
Ended the day with dinner at Ba'ia...best food we had in Cape Town! You have to experience it to understand it.
You cant visit Cape Town without taking advantage of one of their free walking tours. We did their historic walking tour which was very eye opening. We learned a lot and wish that we had time to do more of their walking tours but it was our last day.
Last on our list was Table Mountain...it's on every traveler's list to do in Cape Town. We opted to take the cable-car instead of hiking up because we did not have the energy. We met a group of people up there that said it took them almost 4 hours to make it up there. There was no way I would have made it.
If you can't already tell, I thoroughly enjoyed South Africa, next time, I'll probably just skip Joburg and head straight to Cape Town though lol That's all for my SA tales. I've got more adventures lined up for next year. Follow me on my social media to get live updates. Happy traveling!
