On our last full day in Amsterdam, we had planned to get everything on our list done but you know plans do not usually go well when two other people are involved. After a very delicious room service breakfast at the hotel, we were off on yet another adventure.
Again, we attempted to go to Anne Frank house but that line was long as ever and it was super cold. None of us wanted to endure that cold just to see where this girl Anne Frank lived. We pretty much just explored the city from point A and to Point B with no apparent plan. We visited the famous Magna Plaza. Its a shopping center with different types of shops such as clothing, cheese, souvenirs etc.
We stumbled upon H &M and mango and went crazy with shopping. I believe we were intrigued by the European style of clothing.
We found a wax museum and posed with our wax president.
In case you didn't know, Amsterdam is known for potatoes. Well that is what the taxi driver told us on our first night. We saw a lot kiosks around the city selling fries with different types of sauces. Oh and ketchup is a separate charge. I gotta admit the fries were really good.
Of course it would not be the city of sex and cannabis without seeing these souvenirs all over the city. We also finally made it to the real red light district. Wow! What a sight to see!I didn't take any pictures because it is forbidden but wow these women are something else and would stop at nothing to get a man or in some cases a woman's attention. People were gathered around their windows just staring. We also stared. lol
After shopping and eating, we ended our last night in Amsterdam with our favorite guy, Renus.
Renus wanted a picture with his favorite girls to remember him by. We were definitely going to miss his free snacks.
Our last day in Amsterdam, Chloe did not feel well so she decided to rest up until it was time to head to the airport. Jackson and I again attempted to go to the Anne Frank house, we even woke up super early and were in line by 9am but still that line was like a 1 mile long.
And again we ditched the line. We walked to the front and took pictures instead because at that point that was the closest we were getting to seeing Anne Frank house.
Since Amsterdam is known for their canals, we decided to get on a canal cruise to get another perspective of the city. A canal cruise is a must! They have different types that go to different locations with different views therefore it is important to decide which view is important to you.
The cruise gives you a lot of history on how the city came to be. One important thing I learned was about their houseboats. People actually live in these houseboats as their primary residences and are even more expensive than land homes. Some of these houseboats are pimped out real well with patios, pools etc.
Apparently years ago when homes were too expensive for some to afford, they decided to sleep on their boats and they have now become the norm for some people. They have everything a regular house has and more. The price comes with the location of the boat. These boats do not sail, they are permanently parked along the city canals.
We ended our cruise at the train station, only a couple of blocks from our hotel. Jackson and I had a bright idea to walk back to the hotel to get some exercise. Bad idea!! It was cold as hell. My feet were frozen when we returned to the hotel. That couple of blocks felt like 5 miles.
Chloe was feeling much better upon our return. We gathered our things and headed to the airport. Our flight to Lisbon was couple hours ahead of Jacksons' who was heading back home but we decided to all go to the airport at the same time. Upon check in, to our surprise, our flight had been delayed and was now around the same time as Jacksons. We did not get any type of notification from our airline whatsoever. In fact, had we not asked the desk clerk about the boarding time, she would have never told us our flight had been delayed. This was the beginning of our eternal HATE for TAP Portugal airlines. I could write a whole blog about how much I hate that airline.
