Taiwan- The After Party

On our way to the bar, we chatted with Chris about how he came to live in Taiwan and his experiences since he had been living there. Chris had nothing but good things to say about Taiwan. He said he loves it and it is his second home. He mentioned several times during the drive to the bar how happy he was that there were black girls in town (He loves black women). He even joked that he had not seen 3 black girls together in years! When we arrived at the bar, we noticed that only the young people were invited to the after party. There were already people there from the wedding. The couple had not arrived yet so we sat and waited for them with our new friend Chris. Chris decided to treat us to drinks while we waited. When the couple arrived, they treated us to more drinks. The bride was in her fourth and final dress at this time. Although we stood out like a sore thumb, the atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly. We mingled with the groom’s co-workers (mostly Europeans) as we ate appetizers, drank mixed drinks and took shots of everything they had. Drinks were flowing to the point that we had 3 drinks each at some point (No worries, drinks were not wasted). During this night, Chris mentioned that he wanted to take us out to experience the “real” Taipei and invited us to go clubbing hopping with him. We were a bit hesitant because he was a stranger so we asked the groom’s permission to go out clubbing with his boss. The groom said it was fine. After several more drinks, we were feeling nice and ready to turn up.

Still in our reception outfit and no passports in hand, we said our goodbyes and headed out with Chris to experience Taipei night clubbing. He hailed a taxi outside the bar and we were on our way. Thirty minutes later, we were outside a club. The bouncers at the club were so stunned Chris was with us, they let us in without asking for an ID or cover charge. As we walked into the club, all eyes were on us. I bet Chris was feeling like he was the “Ish” walking in with three beautiful black women (I swear I saw his head grow 3x bigger). We went to the back of the club. The club is called Carnegies located in downtown Taipei. The club was somewhat filled up with young locals. There were people dancing on the bar tops of the club (Not sure if they worked there or not), dressed casually, jeans and tops (We were again team overdressed). They played a lot of old school R &B and rap music like Pit bulls’ “gasolina” , 50 cent’s “in the club” etc. We immediately started turning up to the music while Chris went and got us shots of tequila plus 3 mixed drinks. Chris was such as good host, the drinks kept flowing. The dancers on the bar kept calling us to join them on the bar tops because they saw that we were making fun of their dancing. Chloe finally took the challenge and asked me to climb on top of the bar with her. I love a good time so of course I went on the bar with her but Lindy refused though (Of course Chris went up there with us). Shots kept coming while we were dancing on top of the bar however this time the drinks were on the house. I honestly cannot remember how many shots we had but it was plenty. Everybody wanted to dance with us after we came down from the bartop (I guess they loved our moves). We were only at the club for about 2 hours but it felt like 5 hours. We had soo much fun even to the old school songs Chris said it was time to head to another club joint so we said bye to our new friends even though they were sad to see us go. At this point, I was completely intoxicated. All I remember is that when we arrived at the second club, the bouncers were not soo nice. They wouldn’t let us in without checking our I.Ds which we did not have. Chris attempted to bribe them but they wouldn’t budge. Oh well! We were all drunk at that point and just wanted to sleep because we had a mid afternoon flight to Hong Kong the next day. Chris wanted to take us to another club but we declined. I can’t remember anything else after that. According to Chloe and Lindy, Chris hailed a taxi for us back to our hotel.

We woke up with hangovers but it was time to pack and head to our next destination, Hong Kong. We couldn’t leave Taipei before seeing the 2nd tallest building in the world so after packing all our things, we left our luggage with the hotel attendants and headed to see the famous Taipei 101. After our time at Taipei 101, we went back to the hotel to collect our things and head to the airport. The hotel called a car for us to the airport. The driver they gave us was quite old and appeared a little slow. The drive to the airport was more than interesting. Not only was he driving way below the speed limit but each time we glanced at him, it appeared he was asleep behind the wheel and kept going out of his lane. This was scary to us; the only way to keep him awake and focused on the road was to engage him in a conversation even though we knew he didn’t understand English. By God’s grace, we arrived to the airport without any issues. Lindy and I were on the same flight to Hong Kong with China airlines and Chloe was with Hong Kong airlines but the flights were both at the same time. After checking in, we had to go through immigration again (where do they do that at?) before getting to the gate. Our flight was on time but Chloe was not so lucky. Her flight was an hour late. Our experience in Hong Kong was nothing like Taiwan. Brace yourself for the foolery.

ABOUT ME

Over 3 years ago, I was invited by my cousin to tour Taipei, Hong Kong and Macau. This trip completely changed my life and made me realize the small space in the world that I occupy and have been on a global journey to see the world ever since. I started this blog to share my travel experiences and stories with people and hopefully inspire them to travel.  I love visiting understated countries and cities because in my experience they end up being hidden gems.  I have visited 32  countries and 42 US states.

WHERE AM I NOW ?
